It is to complete the race against water, time, and opponents in the quickest and shortest time possible while adhering to the branch's and rules' requirements.

 

Swimming has five styles: breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, butterfly, and mixed (includes all styles).  Butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke races of 50, 100, and 200 meters are organized; freestyle races of 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1500 meters are organized; and medley races of 100, 200, and 400 meters are organized. Aside from that, there are 4100-meter freestyle and mixed relay races, as well as 4200-meter freestyle women's and men's relay races with four swimmers.
