İstanbul’s Sailing Stage

Olympos Regatta Closes with a Dazzling Bosphorus Finale
For ten days, the sails of the 13th TAYK–Eker Olympos Regatta turned the Marmara into a theater of speed, strategy, and spectacle. The festival reached its crescendo on the final day, when Türkiye’s top yachts carved through the storied waters of the Bosphorus, transforming İstanbul’s skyline into a living backdrop for one of the nation’s most celebrated sailing traditions.

A Festival of Wind and Water
From August 8 to 17, the Regatta brought together hundreds of sailors across five categories—J70, J70 Match Race, Dinghies, IOM model yachts, and the highly anticipated Yacht Class. Each race carried its own drama: the snap of sails in shifting winds, the tactical duels off the Marmara coast, and the sheer joy of competition set against İstanbul’s cultural and natural richness.

The Bosphorus Run: Sport Meets History
The closing stage was more than a race; it was a cultural encounter. Thirty-two yachts navigated a 35-kilometer course stretching from Rumeli Fortress to Sarayburnu, slipping under the Bosphorus bridges while İstanbulites lined the shores to watch. Strong currents and gusty winds made it a contest of skill and nerve, but the scenery—the minarets of the Old City, the palaces along the strait, the rolling Anatolian hills—made it unforgettable.

Champions Crowned
When the spray settled, Fenerbahçe Doğuş emerged as the overall winner of the “Big Cup,” dominating IRC0, IRC1, and IRC2 classifications. In IRC3 and IRC4, it was MYSK–Gelner Sailing Team who claimed the top honors, proving that tactical mastery can outshine raw speed. Behind them, challengers like Ant Yapı Team/Sensei and Enka/Cheese IV secured their own spots in regatta lore.

A City, a Sea, a Tradition
More than just a competition, the Olympos Regatta reaffirmed İstanbul’s role as a sailing capital where East meets West on the water. From youth dinghy races that filled Kalamış with color to the grand spectacle of yachts sprinting down the Bosphorus, the event showcased a sport that is as much about culture and place as it is about performance.

As the last sails lowered and the festival lights dimmed, İstanbul reminded the sailing world of its timeless allure: a city where history flows like a current, and where sport finds its stage between continents.
