Under the Lights of Eastern Anatolia

Erzincan’s Ergan Mountain Hosts a Landmark FIS Snowboard Cross European Cup

High above the plains of Eastern Anatolia, where mountains stretch wide, and silence feels endless, Ergan Mountain delivered one of the most distinctive moments of the European winter sports calendar. From January 15 to 18, 2026, Erzincan welcomed Europe’s elite snowboard cross athletes for the FIS European Cup Erzincan 2026, turning a rising destination into an international stage.

Held under the auspices of the Erzincan Governorship, in coordination with the International Ski Federation (FIS) and supported by public institutions and sponsors, the event unfolded at the Ergan Mountain Winter Sports and Nature Tourism Center—a venue that continues to redefine winter tourism in Türkiye.

Speed, Precision — and Nightfall

Snowboard Cross is a discipline defined by chaos under control: explosive starts, tight turns, jumps, and split-second decisions. Over two days of racing, 151 athletes from 10 countries pushed those limits on a specially prepared 800-meter course, designed to meet international competition standards.

But Ergan offered something more.

For the first time in the history of the FIS Snowboard Cross European Cup, races were held under night conditions, with powerful floodlights illuminating the course against the dark Anatolian sky. The spectacle transformed the mountain into a glowing arena—snow sparkling under artificial light, speed amplified by contrast, and Erzincan stepping confidently into the global spotlight.

A Mountain on the Rise

Though a relatively new facility, Ergan Mountain has quickly drawn attention across Europe. With one of the longest ski runs on the continent—reported as the second longest in Europe—the resort combines scale with technical versatility, making it ideal for high-level competitions.

Set against a dramatic landscape of open ridgelines and wide horizons, Ergan is not only a racing venue but a destination shaped by nature itself. Its altitude, snow reliability, and expanding infrastructure signal Erzincan’s ambition to become a permanent fixture on the international winter sports map.

Why Ergan Stays With You

There’s something about Ergan Mountain that lingers long after the final run.

Maybe it’s the way the lights cut through the night air, turning the mountain into a glowing stage. Or the sound of boards carving into snow under the stars, echoing across a landscape that feels vast and untouched. Or maybe it’s simply the sense of space—of breathing deeper, moving slower, and realizing that winter here feels different.

For the athletes, Ergan was a test of speed and precision.

For those watching, it was an invitation.

An invitation to discover a corner of Türkiye where winter is quiet but powerful, where the slopes feel uncrowded, the air feels cleaner, and the mountains feel close enough to touch. A place where competition and nature coexist, and where the experience doesn’t end when the race does.

You don’t come to Ergan just to watch a race.

You come because something tells you that you should return—this time, with your own board.

A New Chapter for the Anatolian Peaks

As the floodlights dimmed and the final echoes of the competition faded, Ergan Mountain proved it is ready to take its place alongside Türkiye’s winter giants. While the peaks of Erzurum and Kayseri have long established the nation as a winter sports powerhouse, Erzincan is offering something distinct: a raw, innovative energy that bridges tradition with a new era of competition.

By hosting Europe’s first nighttime Snowboard Cross European Cup, Ergan has shown that world-class winter sport in Türkiye is not just growing—it is evolving.

In Eastern Anatolia, the mountains have always been ready. Now, they are shining in a new light.
