Vincenzo Florio, with a weight of 2817 gross tons, manufactured by Alexander Stephen & Sons Limited in Govan in 1880, had taken on the task of dispatching the Italian army to Tripoli, in the Battle of Tripoli between Italy and the Ottoman Empire. It was purchased by the Royal Navy in 1915 and sent to its last mission on the Gallipoli front. It was sunk on July 30, 1915 in order to be used as a floating pier at Cape Tekke.
