Mount Süphan is a stratovolcano in eastern Türkiye, just north of Lake Van. With an elevation of 4,058 meters(13,314 feet), it is Türkiye's second highest volcano.
The mountain has two peaks, east and west, separated by a 1.5 km-wide basin with two small lakes. The eastern summit is much larger in area and consists of "a wide snow-covered platform of cairn-like bare rock peaks". The entire northern shore of Lake Van, Mount Ararat, the Murat River, and even the Mount Palandöken south of Erzurum are visible from here. The smaller western summit has lava boulder fields. The two peaks are connected by a short ridge. Lava "ribs" decorate the mountain's whole surface.
As you climb, you can be treated to a breathtaking vista of Lake Van. The route is very easy in the summer (there is no glacier on top, just a few small glaciers around the crater's slopes), but snowfalls reach 3-4m in the winter.
Adilcevaz is the best place to start. You can reach it from Tatvan via Ahlat or Van via Ercis. There are two routes to the summit: the southern route begins in Harmantepe village and the eastern route begins in Aydinlar.
You just have to register at the gendarmerie office in Adilcevaz (it is required), there are no fees.
