Varda Ultra Trail 2026
More than a century ago, a railway bridge rose above a deep canyon in the Taurus Mountains, connecting two sides of a rugged landscape that had challenged engineers for years. On November 6–7, 2026, that same bridge will become the finishing landmark of Varda Ultra Trail, inviting runners into one of southern Türkiye's most dramatic mountain settings.
Returning for its third edition, the event will bring three trail races to Adana, taking athletes through forest paths, rocky hillsides, steep climbs, and the extraordinary scenery of Çakıt Valley. At the heart of the experience will stand Varda Bridge, the historic stone railway viaduct that inspired the race and continues to carry trains high above the canyon.
The flagship 59K Varda Ultra Trail will begin at Yerköprü on November 7, challenging experienced runners with demanding mountain terrain and long stretches through the Taurus Mountains. After approximately 31 kilometers, the course will enter Belemedik Nature Park, continuing along the Çakıt Valley toward the spectacular finish at Varda Bridge. The 27K Belemedik Trail will start from Belemedik Square, following forest paths and valley landscapes toward the same historic destination. For those looking for a shorter challenge, the 14K Bridge Trail will begin at Yerköprü, offering a more accessible route with its own demanding climbs and a memorable finish.
The bridge itself will be one of the event's greatest attractions. Completed in 1912 as part of the historic Baghdad Railway project, the 172-meter-long, 99-meter-high stone viaduct remains an extraordinary example of early 20th-century engineering. Its graceful arches curve across the canyon, creating a striking contrast between human ambition and the wild terrain of the Taurus Mountains. More than a century later, the structure will provide a remarkable backdrop for athletes reaching the end of their journey.
Away from the trails, Adana will offer an entirely different experience. Visitors can explore the ancient Stone Bridge (Taşköprü) across the Seyhan River, discover the city's archaeological heritage, wander through the historic Kazancılar Bazaar, or visit the impressive Great Clock Tower (Büyük Saat). The city's celebrated food culture will add another reason to stay: Adana kebab, spicy minced lamb grilled over charcoal; şalgam, a tangy fermented purple-carrot drink; and analı kızlı, a traditional soup featuring stuffed bulgur dumplings and smaller meatballs.
The weekend will begin on November 6 with race preparations and a gathering at Adana Train Station Square before the three races take over the mountains on November 7.
For runners, Varda Ultra Trail will be a test of endurance through the rugged Taurus Mountains. For those watching, the reward will be just as remarkable: deep canyon views, forested slopes, and the sight of athletes reaching a finish line beside a railway bridge that has stood for more than a century. In Adana, even the finish line will come with a story.
