Presidential 7th International Yacht Races – Northern Cyprus Cup
Some sailing races follow the coastline. Others leave it behind.
On November 16, 2026, the Presidential 7th International Yacht Races – Northern Cyprus Cup will set sail from Marmaris Bay, sending competing yachts across the Mediterranean toward Girne (Kyrenia) on the northern coast of Cyprus. With one offshore race connecting two distinctive Mediterranean destinations, the event will bring navigation, endurance, teamwork, and the unpredictability of the open sea into a single challenge.
Competing in the ORC, IRC, and Cruising classes, crews will leave the sheltered waters of Marmaris and head toward the finish line positioned off Girne Harbour. Beyond the familiar landmarks of the coast, sailors will need to read changing winds, manage their course, and maintain concentration as they make their way across open water. The first yacht to cross the finish line will claim the Cyprus Cup Line Honours, while the team recording the best corrected time will receive the Best Corrected Time award. The top three crews in each eligible division will be recognized at the awards ceremony in Girne on November 19.
The journey will connect two places with deep maritime identities. Marmaris, surrounded by pine-covered hills and sheltered bays, will provide a spectacular Mediterranean departure. Its waterfront, marina, old town, and historic castle will offer a welcoming setting before the fleet heads out to sea.
At the other end of the voyage, Girne will reveal a different chapter of Mediterranean history. Its picturesque old harbor, framed by stone buildings and the imposing Kyrenia Castle, will provide a memorable setting for the celebrations. Visitors can also explore Bellapais Abbey, the mountain scenery surrounding St. Hilarion Castle, and the island's distinctive culinary traditions, from hellim, a traditional brined cheese often served grilled, to şeftali kebabı, a Cypriot specialty of seasoned grilled meat.
For those following the race from shore, the departure from Marmaris and the finish celebrations in Girne will offer two very different sides of the experience. Between them will lie the real challenge: the open Mediterranean, where every change in wind and every decision on board will matter.
One departure. One sea crossing. One finish line off Cyprus. The Northern Cyprus Cup will be a reminder that in offshore sailing, the journey is every bit as important as the destination.
